I'm pleased to say that I've been joined by my friend and colleague Alex Schouvaloff, https://decorative-art-services.co.uk, who is now tackling all the gilding and intricate stencil work on the pipes. He has painstakingly removed the awful silver paint to expose all the original designs and colours and is now in a position to reproduce exactly the original appearance.
